Why Archery?

So, you have seen the films, watched the Olympics, or have had a go at archery when you were on holiday or back when you were at school or Scouts. What is target archery in the UK all about and what are the benefits to getting involved?

There are hundreds of clubs across the country running archery sessions for their members or beginners every week. We are based in South Leeds and Dewsbury and have members from across the area. If you are not sure if we are the nearest club to you, we recommend going to Archery GB’s website Start Archery where you will be able to search for clubs near you and find out a lot more about the sport.

Why do archery in the first place? Well, we might seem biased, but the feedback from our members tells you everything you need to know. Here are just a few examples:

  • Meet New People: Archers are a social group. We compete & learn together and love sharing cake and a chat away from the shooting line
  • Fitness: Archery helps to build muscle endurance and flexibility, develop hand eye coordination and body strength and look cool while doing it
  • Mental Health: Our sport helps with mental focus, drive and resilience, perfect for mindfulness and letting go of everyday stress
  • Confidence: Meeting people with similar interests helps start conversations
  • Motivation: Having the motivation to practice, achieve goals and ambitions.
  • Competition: Whether competing against club mates or taking on an open competition, archery can provide that thrill and chance to shine
  • Achievement: Everytime you beat your personal best, win your first archery medal or even a new club record it feels great and motivates you to try even harder next time
  • Volunteering: Helping others as a coach has given me purpose and confidence as I share my knowledge
